Just days before the start of the Tour de France, now entering its decisive phase after an enthralling opening week, Richard Mille unveiled one of the most fascinating sports watches of the year: the new RM 64-01 Tourbillon Colnago. Produced in a highly exclusive limited edition of just 50 pieces, the watch represents the meeting point between two worlds obsessed with engineering excellence: Swiss haute horlogerie and Italian cycling heritage.

The timing of the launch was anything but accidental. The watch was conceived for Tadej Pogačar, the dominant rider of his generation and, according to many, already the greatest cyclist in history. As the current leader of the Tour de France, the Slovenian once again finds himself chasing another historic victory, one that would further cement his place among the legends of the sport.
The New RM 64-01
Richard Mille has been closely associated with Pogačar and UAE Team Emirates for several years, but the RM 64-01 takes that relationship to an entirely new level. Rather than simply placing a logo on the dial, the manufacture partnered with Italian bicycle icon Colnago to reinterpret the very architecture of a racing bicycle through watchmaking.

The result is one of the most spectacular skeletonized movements Richard Mille has ever produced. While the brand has long made skeletonization one of its signatures, the RM 64-01 pushes the concept further than ever before. The manually wound tourbillon calibre has been engineered so that its bridges and structural elements echo the tubes, geometries and drivetrain of a Colnago racing frame. Star-shaped bridge sections reference the legendary Gilco tubing that made Colnago famous, while every component appears suspended in space, creating a remarkable sense of depth and transparency.
It is yet another demonstration of Richard Mille’s philosophy: looking beyond traditional watchmaking for inspiration. Whether drawing from Formula 1, aviation, sailing or now elite cycling, the brand continues to elevate technical innovation by borrowing engineering solutions and design languages from entirely different disciplines. The RM 64-01 is not merely inspired by cycling, it feels engineered with the same obsessive pursuit of lightness, structural rigidity and performance that defines the world’s finest racing bicycles.

Visually, the watch perfectly balances Richard Mille’s futuristic aesthetic with Colnago’s unmistakable Italian identity. The predominantly white case is accented with blue and subtle gold details, while the crown proudly features Colnago’s iconic clover logo, a discreet but meaningful tribute to one of cycling’s most celebrated manufacturers.
With a retail price reported at around CHF 800,000 before taxes, roughly one million dollars depending on the market, the RM 64-01 instantly becomes one of the most valuable sports watches ever associated with professional cycling.
Why is not on Tadej’s wrist. Yet…
Ironically, however, it is also the Richard Mille least likely to be seen during competition. According to reports from BikeRadar, despite starring in the campaign images, Pogačar is not expected to wear the RM 64-01 during the Tour de France itself due to personal safety concerns. With thousands of spectators lining every start and finish each day, carrying nearly one million dollars on the wrist would present an unnecessary security risk. Instead, the Slovenian is expected to continue racing with the ultra-light RM 67-02 that has become synonymous with his greatest victories.
But cycling is a sport built on symbolism as much as performance.

Should the race unfold as many expect and Pogačar complete another triumphant ride into Paris, there may be no more fitting moment for the RM 64-01 to finally make its appearance. Standing on the podium on the Champs-Élysées, lifting what could become his fifth Tour de France title, the watch would perfectly embody the shared pursuit of perfection between Richard Mille, Colnago and the rider who continues to redefine the limits of modern cycling.
Sometimes, the greatest watches are not designed for the race itself. They are created for the moment history is made.
